Impossible Elephant Illusion  was created sometime in 2006 by a German humor magazine (by the same magazine that created the Rabbit–Duck Illusion) as a poster, which says, "wie kann das passieren" which translates from German, "How can this happen?"

The poster was originally created to trick the viewer into, as one of the designers described, "to give the ponderers head aches" and by another designer, "to make those who wonder wonder even more."

Several versions of the poster exist, and the original being posting on "Illusions4u.com" but the website being taken down in 2009 due to copyrighted artwork and pictures. Soon an anonymous user on 4Chan's /x/ board made the poster into a public domain image and it caught on as an optical illusion.
